Review: Carhartt Men’s CMF6366 6 Inch Composite Toe Boot

Carhartt has been a well-known name in blue-collar apparel for many years, providing some of the best work pants, shirts, socks, and much more. They are also one of the best steel toe boot manufacturers out there that many people overlook. If you’re looking for a hiking style work boot check out our list of the top 5 hiking steel toes for 2021

Their steel toe boots are rugged, comfortable, and extremely popular with police, construction workers, miners, electricians, farmers, and just about anyone who works outside.

They are some of the most comfortable and durable work boots out there. Today we’ll be taking a closer look at the Carhartt Men’s CMF6366 6 Inch Composite Toe Boot. One of my favorites produced by Carhartt for many heavy workload jobs.

Are They Comfortable?

Are the CMF6366 work boots comfortable and if so just how comfortable are they? I can say yes these are very comfortable work boots. The insole is quite good straight out of the box.

Eventually, as with all work boots, you’ll probably want to change the insole after around 9 months but this should be expected with all work boots. Overall these boots are quite comfortable walking on concrete, gravel, and job sites in general.

Are They Heavy?

The weight of your work boots is a large part of how enjoyable the boots are to wear. Often times a heavy work boot can lead to lower back pain and generally being more difficult to wear walking 5+ miles a day. Nobody wants ankle weights if they don’t need them.

These 6-inch lace-ups are very light for being safety toe boots. Being that they are made with a composite toe instead of a steel toe is part of the reason but also the outer soles materials make for this boot to be very light for its durability.

You’ll have no problem walking 5+ miles a day and honestly, you may even forget they’re safety toe by the end of the day. If you’re looking to start out with a very good insole thought I recommend the Timberland Anti-Fatigue insoles. They’re the most comfortable insoles I’ve found.

Durability - How Long Are They Going to Last?

You can expect 6-16 months of wear out of these boots depending upon your job, what elements you’re putting your boots through, and if you’re rotating them with another pair.

These boots are quite durable but as always it will depend upon the job you’re doing how long they’ll last. The leather Carhartt uses is quite good and is genuine leather.

None of that pleather stuff here. The laces leave a little to be wanted, some customers have said the laces have blown out in a couple of months, while not a big issue to purchase new laces it is still something to consider.

The sole of these boots is cemented/ glued to the boot itself. I generally like a combination of cement and stitching but these boots have a good lifespan for being only cemented.

Leather Quality

Made with genuine leather, no pleather to be found here. It is not waterproof leather but can easily be made waterproof with Sno-Seal or mink oil, wearers choice.

It is completely leather going all the way up to the top of the boot except for a small cloth piece, the place where it will most likely come into contact with your leg.

It being completely leather means there will be some breaking in that happens over time. You can expect the sides to expand/ stretch as you wear them. Especially you’re working outside and the boots get wet.

If you need to, many cobblers and boot stores stretch the width of boots, reducing that break-in time.

Are They Waterproof?

These boots are not waterproof. They can be made waterproof using mink oil or Sno-Seal after purchase but out of the box water will eventually soak through the leather.

Using an aftermarket product, such as Sno-Seal, is usually ideal to waterproofing your boots because the waterproof liner that comes inside the boots can often tear at unexpected times along with making the boot hotter.

Breathable? Will My Feet Get Hot?

These boots are 100% leather which means that they are not as breathable as a cloth pair of boots. Overall they are not very breathable, your feet will feel the heat if working outdoors or in the heat, this shouldn’t be too much of a red flag though as all leather boots will be quite hot.

Carhartt Men's CMF6366 6 Inch Composite Toe Boot: BUY or BUYER BEWARE?

I consider the CMF6366 boots to be a BUY if you’re working a job in the above list, enjoy lace-ups, and need or prefer leather boots.

The boots are lightweight, composite toe, electrical hazard rated, slip resistant, and puncture resistant which gives you a wide range of protections common to job sites.

The leather is made of good quality, can be waterproofed and has a decent insole.

Do Carhartt boots run true to size?

Carhartt Wears Leather is a boot. They run true to size. However, they have a bit of extra room built-in, which allows for more freedom of movement. So, it is recommended you take a half-size larger boot than your own. We recommend using Amazon for finding a true size because of the free shipping option for Prime Members.

Does Carhartt have a lifetime warranty?

Carhartt is a boot that is made to last for long; however, since there are some expected fortunes, they provide a lifelong warranty that is somehow limited to the area of coverage. If your boots are damaged by normal wear and tear and you’d like them repaired, Carhartt will repair them for a decent price based on the repairs needed.

Are Carhartt returns free?

Returning the boots is not free, they charge a $7 fee if sent to Carhartt themselves. Carhartt will waive the fee if you take payment as a credit within the Carhartt store, meaning no fee if you purchase a different pair of boots from Carhartt. If bought through a third party such as Amazon there may be free shipping involved but it is up to that platform.
